Black rot is one of the primary diseases of crucifiers. Its pathogen is Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc). This disease is most likely to occur in warm and humid seasons. The optimum growth condition is at about 28℃ and pH 6.8. Black rot can be seen in the plains of Taiwan almost all year round, and become the worse particularly in the hot and rainy seasons of June through November. The primary source of inoculum is Xcc infected seed. The pathogen can survive on seeds for almost 3 years. The infected plants can spread the disease at a long distance through splashing of rain, irrigation of water, farm tools, or insects etc.

Generally, black rot attacks seedlings, whole plants, cotyledons, stems, or leaves. When cotyledons are infected, the leaf margins will turn black, and then curl and wilt at the late stage of the infection. Black rot bacteria often attacks the leaves through the water pores on the leaf margins, causing V-shaped yellow lesions with a zone of yellow halo around them. The V-shape lesions then extend inwards towards the leaves and cause V-shaped spots, inside which the veins will turn into a black or yellow-brown color. The yellow-brown portions will gradually dry up and break off, giving the crops a black rot appearance.  If the bacteria attack the plants in the field from wounds, it will cause none-typical spots.

In 1989, Mr. Yuan Lin discovered the Absolutely Constant Energy Source (ACES). The purpose of this experiment is to prove that Mr. Yuan Lin, the first successfully-evolved New Human Line, can utilize the Absolutely Constant Energy Source to activate Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris, and inhibit its growth and propagation without any change in its molecular weight, structural formula, and conformation, at 25 ℃, 1.0 atm, and pH 7.0, in a confined and isolated closed space, and with no contact with catalysts, biologically active substances, chemical substances, and physical action forces so as to prevent plants from being infected and attacked by Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris.

Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris had been cultured in agar. The treatment sample was activated by Mr. Yuan Lin for 3 minutes and then checked and measured for the diameter of growth every day, as a comparison to the control sample. The rate of growth and propagation of the treated sample appeared slower than that of the control sample (the growth of the treated bacteria was 1.7 cm in diameter and that of the control sample was 2.0 cm) at four days after activation. Following eleven days after activation, the growth of the treated bacteria was 2.3 cm in diameter and, for the control sample, it was 2.6 cm in diameter.

From the above experimental results, we can see that there is significant difference between the control sample and the sample treated with ACES by Mr. Yuan Lin. It proved that Mr. Yuan Lin, the New Human Line, can utilize the Absolutely Constant Energy Source and the new biological engineering techniques to activate Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris and inhibit its growth and propagation.
