Wound healing time is the amount of time it takes for the skin and subcutaneous tissues to heal after experiencing a wound. Wound healing involves three phases in total known as the inflammatory phase, proliferative phase, and remodeling phase. Usually 2 to 3 days after wound formation is the inflammatory stage. After the end of the inflammatory stage comes the proliferative stage, which will last for about 3 months and possibly extend to 6 months. The peak period lasts for about 45 to 90 days. During this time, there will be new blood vessels and more fibrotic tissues generated at the wound site, making the scar of the wound appear red and increase in hardness and width.

About 3 months later, the wound will go into the remodeling stage. This stage may last for about 3 months to a year, or even longer. The new scar tissue will not increase at the remodeling stage and the hard scar tissue will gradually change to mature and soft collagen fibers. As the number of blood vessels significantly reduces, the scar will become lighter in color, and flatter and softer in hardness and thickness.
