Chitin is a long-chain polymer composed of about 8000 units of N-acetylglucosamine, a glucose derivative. Chemically, it is a polymer of N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine. Chitin together with chitosan broadly exists in the external shells and internal skeleton of crustaceans, mollusks, and arthropods, and the cell walls in fungi and yeast. Similar to cellulose in chemical structure, it is semi-translucent, pliable, resilient, quite tough, and diverse.
